Write a short (5ish) sentence response to the section we read in class today. I think this quote is a pretty interesting place to think about:
"The jurors laughed. They were a mob. Hands grabbed at the mike. Kevin looked anxiously at me. I could do nothing. With all the buttons and switches at my command, I was helpless to change anything on the other side of the glass.
'I got a simple question for you. What's the matter with you? Huh? Huh?'
'Why can't you be normal?'"

i seriously think that she should have gone berzerk and destroyed every thing.
ReplyDeleteI think that this was a crazy chapter. I mean, first they think that being odd and different is bad. Then they think that it's cool. Then suddenly, they think it's bad again. It seems like it was just because Stargirl was rooting for the other team, too. I think that I agree with Stargirl about rooting for the other team. If you think about it, sports might be more enjoyable for everyone if we didn't worry about winning or losing and just had fun. I think that the jurors were too hard on Stargirl, especially Hillari. I wonder what the students would think if someone asked them what normal really was? It might make them realize that there really is no such thing as normal, and it's just something that they perceive it to be. It's really not wrong to be different. It's what makes you unique. It's what makes you, you. I hope that in the end, the school will come to accept Stargirl, or at least that Leo will become Stargirl's friend, despite the thoughts of others.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'd like to add that I've realized that there's something weird about why they think she's abnormal. Really, in truth, Stargirl is someone that people really should act like. She's kind, caring, stands up for what she thinks is right, isn't afraid to have fun, and she just... makes the world better. She always is positive, and is sympathetic towards others. If the whole world were like Stargirl, there probably wouldn't be wars. In fact, I'm sure there probably wouldn't be much conflict at all. No one would have a reason to be sad, and I'm just sure the whole world would be so much better than it currently is.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with Musical Mal on this one because everybody acts all weird around her just because she is unique. I think that people should admire the way that stargirl acts and the way that she looks at situations. She is really a very sweet girl that has done no harm to anybody. She is kind, generous, and if she was at my school she would probably be my best friend. Just like at our school some kids may not be accepted just because they are a little different than what people "think" the way people should be. I admire stargirl for not taking into consideration of what people think of her. She is just trying to do her thing and people should just leave her alone. I think that everybody at every school should do what stargirl does and cheer for the other team instead of saying "booooooo" or something like that. People should encourage instead of discourage.

I think stargirl is going to leave the school cause shes been humiliated so bad. But everybody might apoligize and she might someback to the school, and probly shel act normall just like the kids wanted her to.
ReplyDeleteI think Stargirl is going to leave because of all the hurtful things there saying to her. Also because she was ridiculed in front of all her peers which probably made her really sad. The thing is they might also apoligize to her and she might act normal to her like she wants them to. The worst thing that I thought about the hotseat fiasco was that no one let up on Stargirl about this cruel and inhuman questions.
ReplyDeleteI think Stargirl will just keep going on with her life. I think that she could really care less what people think of her. In one point of the book I think Stargirl will stand up for herself and all the people will realize how mean they were to her. I think the whole thing about being normal was a little to far. There isnt a real definition of being "normal".
ReplyDeletei think that those people's comments might actually affect Stargirl. She might try to be normal instead of different and just do whatever everyone else is doing instead of her own thing. I mean a lot of people would try to be someone else to be "cool".

ReplyDeleteI have a dream that one day, stargirl will not be so weird and grow up. I hope that she will not be judged by her looks but by her craziness.Get new friends and move out right now. ReplyDeleteI don't think Stargirl will leave, but maybe she will start to miss more days of school so that the schoolkids will realize how much they need her. Stargirl is very quiet all of a sudden. She is usually veryone's friend. And the love letter to Leo that says *Girl was pretty obvious. I wonder if Leo will ever figure it out.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone should just leave stargirl alone. if you really think about there is no real defintion of a "normal person" so they should all just back off! becuase obviously she is happy with who she is!!
