Extra Credit Stargirl Response

So sorry I forgot to post today. I literally got out of bed to do this because I just remembered. I'll give extra credit on this until 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 7.

Remember, this post is for extra credit (about 2 points, though I may give more if you participate a lot). I thought the section of Stargirl we read today was really interesting. I'm most interested in what you think her actions say about her character, or what you think of them (the pledge, the funeral attendance, the bike). I'm going to leave your response this time up to you--comment on something that interests you right now about the book. If you have a question for the group, post it, and check back in to see what people thought. I will look forward to hearing what you have to say.

  1. I think that Stargirl is treading on too many feet. Someone who is very patriotic might start to find that he/she thinks that the way Stargirl says the Pledge of Allegiance offensive. The new bike and the funeral incident might stir up the neighborhood and city, and people might think that she is treading on too many important feet. She might eventually offend someone important in the community, like the mayor or the school superintendent. She could also end up being a nationally known child prodigy, encouraging a burst of people wanting to be the best, either leaving a confused jumble or a more confident society.

  2. Stargirl is a very admirable person to me because she is not afraid to make a fool of herself or show that she cares for something or someone. The incident with the bike really showed that she thought about those people. She is a very mysterious person. The Pledge of Allegiance is kind of funny actually. But I can see that it will come to a point where it will become kind of rude or annoying. The funeral attendance was actually kind of creepy in a way. It's kind of weird the way that Stargirl knows whats going on with basically everybody. It really shows how supportive and kind she really is towards people she may not even know!

  3. I like Stargirl because she's different. She's not afraid to say what's on her mind, but still she's always nice to people. I think she does the thing she does because she wants to not because she's told to.
